Atalanta fear Marten de Roon suffered a severe knee injury in the Coppa Italia Final against Juventus as the Dutch midfielder was in tears when he was subbed off in the second half.

Atalanta may have lost their key midfielder, De Roon, for next week’s Europa League Final against Bayer Leverkusen. The Netherlands international is feared to have suffered a knee injury against Juventus in the Coppa Italia Final on Wednesday night.

De Roon fell down at minute 64 after a challenge with Dusan Vlahovic, but there was no strong contact between the pair, and De Roon just fell to the floor and lay down, bursting into tears.

Atalanta doctors immediately rushed to the pitch, and De Roon was subbed off shortly afterwards. Fortunately, he didn’t need a stretcher to reach the Atalanta bench.

De Roon is the second Atalanta player for minutes played this season. He had collected 3873 prior to tonight’s match. The 33-year-old has provided five assists in 46 appearances this term.
