Chelsea stats shows football is a game of two halves with two different season endings

There has been a very interesting stat produced today upon the end of the season that really does show in a Chelsea sense at least, that football really is a game of two halves.

The Blues ended up finishing 6th in the Premier League afterbeating Bournemouth on the final day of the season to secure European football back at Stamford Bridge again next season.

However, it has been far from rainbows and sunshine for Mauricio Pochettino and his Chelsea players this season, with many ups and downs across what has been a very inconsistent season at the very least.

And article produced by The Daily Mail yesterday has drawn in on a very interesting stat, a stat that shows two very different endings to the season for Pochettino’s side.

A game of two halves

A table for first halves would place Chelsea in the Premier League’s top four this season. For second halves, they are closer to the relegation zone.

There was a period in the season when Blues fans were left wondering what on earth Pochettino was saying to his players during the half time break, because they would often come out and be a completely different side, either throwing away a comfortable lead in the game, or just coming out much more lethargic and lacking concentration.

It’s crazy really to see the clear differences from those periods of the season to the last five games, where Pochettino led a very good end of season run winning five games on the bounce to get that all important 6th placed finish.

There’s been injuries of course, and it’s no coincidence that those injuries to key players eased up in these last five games. But overall it wasn’t good enough during these bad periods, despite a strong end to the season.
