Jets still 'open to trading' former No. 2 overall pick

Quarterback Zach Wilson's future with the Jets remains up in the air.

The former No. 2 overall pick in 2021 has been given several opportunities to prove he can be New York's future quarterback and has simply not been able to do so, throwing 23 touchdowns and 25 interceptions in 34 games played.

The Jets seem ready to move from Wilson, but general manager Joe Douglas revealed they are still trying to find a trade partner.

"I know you guys talked to Woody about Zach and my thoughts are in line with Woody," Douglas said. "Zach is an asset. At that same time, we're obviously open to trading Zach. There have been discussions, nothing's really changed since we talked down in Florida. We're open to trading him, there's just no update on that."

Last month, owner Woody Johnson made it clear that New York would not simply cut Wilson if it was unable to reach a trade agreement.

"If we don't trade him, we're gonna keep him," Johnson told reporters.

Douglas' recent comments support that notion while acknowledging a fresh start would still be the best for both sides. The Jets must determine what they are willing to give up Wilson for.

The Patriots received a 2024 sixth-round pick in exchange for quarterback Mac Jones, the No. 15 overall pick in 2021, from the Jaguars earlier this offseason. It can be argued Wilson is worth that or even less.

It's unknown what New York's asking price is, but it could be that no other team is simply interested in giving up anything for Wilson.

The Jets signed Tyrod Taylor as the primary backup to Aaron Rodgers this season, so the idea of Wilson finding his way back into the starting lineup is unlikely.

Wilson is heading into the final year of his rookie deal, so money should not be a concern to any potential trade partner. However, Wilson's play may be.
