MLB strikeout props for Tuesday 4/16: Keep fading Cubs' Kyle Hendricks

MLB strikeout props for Tuesday 4/16: Keep fading Cubs' Kyle Hendricks

We started the week off with a 2-1 mark in strikeout props on Monday, bringing us to 5-1 in our last six picks. With a full slate of MLB games set for Tuesday night, we're looking to keep the profit train rolling with three more K props.

Jose Quintana under 5.5 Ks (-125 DraftKings)

Pirates vs. Mets, 7:10 p.m. ET

Jose Quintana has great numbers against current Pittsburgh Pirates hitters, but this number is still too high. Through three starts this season, the New York Mets left-hander ranks 125th out of 138 qualified pitchers in whiff rate (16.8 percent) and 104th in strikeout rate (17.1 percent), per Baseball Savant. He hasn't gone over four Ks in any start this year despite averaging 95.7 pitches per game. The 35-year-old simply doesn't have the swing-and-miss stuff he used to, so we'll take the under.

Jared Jones over 6.5 Ks (+125 DraftKings)

Pirates vs. Mets, 7:10 p.m. ET

Sportsbooks still haven't caught up to how nasty Jared Jones is. The Pittsburgh Pirates rookie has racked up 25 Ks over his first three starts, going over 6.5 in all three. He ranks in the 93rd percentile in fastball velocity (97.0 mph) and chase rate (37.2 percent), and he has the highest whiff rate (39.5 percent) in the league among qualified pitchers. Jones might just be the next great strikeout artist in MLB.

Kyle Hendricks under 3.5 Ks (-140 DraftKings)

Cubs vs. Diamondbacks, 9:40 p.m. ET

We're going to keep fading Kyle Hendricks as long as his strikeout prop number stays in this range. The veteran right-hander ranks dead last among qualified pitchers in whiff rate (11.1 percent), and his strikeout rate of 12.1 percent would be the lowest of his career. The Arizona Diamondbacks have the lowest whiff rate (20.3 percent), the second-lowest K rate (17.4 percent) and the fifth-lowest chase rate (25.6 percent) in the league this season. Current D-backs hitters have also faced Hendricks a combined 246 times, so the familiarity should help our case, too.
